Security Watching Glass

It wasn’t long before Iris found the glass manufacturing business’s filing room. If only it was as simple as waltzing in and searching through the filing cabinets for proof of the Director hiring this company for money. But no, there were three security cameras in the room, and cabinets magically opening themselves and pulling out files wasn’t likely to go unnoticed.

Iris turned away from the room, for now, deciding instead to head to the security centre she’d found minutes earlier. If she could take out the cameras, it would be safe to search through the files.

The security centre was a dark room, lit only by the screens that showed CCTV footage from all around the building. Ordinarily, it would have probably been a bit much, but considering this building housed professionals capable of offering the best glazier services Melbourne had ever seen, Iris supposed the level of security was suitable.

Two guards sat in comfortable chairs, overlooking the footage. Iris snuck behind them, trying to determine the best way to take out the cameras. She’d have to get rid of them all, otherwise, the guards would head straight for the filing room.

In the corner of the room, tucked behind the large desk holding all the screens, was a power socket. Surely something so simple wouldn’t work, would it? Would they even think to check the socket if the screens suddenly went blank, given it was so obvious?

Iris figured she’d give it a go. Even if they worked it out fairly quickly, it would still take time for the system to reboot. She’d sneak into the filing room, find the information she needed and then get out before the cameras were back.

Waiting until one of the guards looked away at a screen showing a beautifully crafted stair balustrade, Iris stalked over to the power socket and flicked the switch. The screens went dark, and the security guards immediately sat up at attention. The two men began tapping buttons, hoping to bring the footage back, to no avail.

“Titus, call IT and get them up here to sort this out. Looks like we’re having another blackout.”

Iris took the opportunity to sneak away, just as planned.
