Securing My Ute

“Oi, Dazza! Dazza!”

Those were the words I heard when playing a game of darts at the pub. I assumed it was someone in a stupor trying to get my attention about something trivial. The crew were always clowning around and having a laugh. Nothing would ever get too hectic as we all had to be up again at 4am. That’s the tradie life. After throwing a dart to the board, I turned to see who was calling out my name. It was my mate. He had a clear look of concern on his face. This was not typical for him.

“Everything all good mate?” I said as I walked over.

“I’d like to say it’s all good, but it’s not. Take a look.”

With half his body leaning out the front entrance, I too peered my head to see what all the commotion was. Once I saw what had happened, I instantly ran out of the pub and straight to the ute. I could have yelled every obscenity from the top of my lungs at that very second. Instead, I stood there in silence simply staring at the ute trying to process my thoughts.

“Ah mate, it’s happened to us all at some point.”

Someone had broken into my ute and stolen my tools. I knew I should’ve installed some aluminium ute canopies when I had the chance! This wouldn’t have happened otherwise! Now not only was I going to have to replace these tools, but I was also going to need to finally commit to getting something more secure for my ute. All I knew was that work would be damn tricky tomorrow without having my usual equipment.

I’ve found some ute trays for sale in Melbourne so I think I might just bite the bullet and get them. I’m lucky I decided to be a bit more frugal with my cash this month as this situation has really set me back a bit in the old bank account! Now to replace the tools and invest in something more secure for the ute, so long savings!
