Maybe Getting Experience

Learning something new is always a bit daunting, but it’s also fun! I’m currently a school kid and we’ve been told that we need to do work experience for two weeks now that we’ve turned sixteen. We’re allowed to do it during school hours (thank God they’re not making us do it on school holidays when I’m supposed to be gaming) which is really cool. I need to decide what I want to do and apply for it myself before the due date so that I can do my work experience and pass year 10.

I’m not quite sure what I want to be when I grow up but I think it would be cool to get my hands dirty. I’m not overly keen on sitting behind a desk all day and I can’t imagine myself being a doctor or anything. So I’m thinking that I might like to be something like a drain plumber. Melbourne has heaps of drains so I would always have secure work and my parents have also told me that they don’t care what I do in the future as long as there is always work for me to do.

Seeing as I don’t think that robots will be taking over the plumbing profession completely, I should be right to pursue this as a career. Or, at the very least, complete the two weeks of work experience that I have to do for school to pass year 10. That’s all I really care about, but I am sort of looking forward to learning something new and seeing if I would actually like to be a plumber.

I wonder what I would have to do during work experience. I haven’t lined anything up yet, but I want to be prepared in case the plumber asks me what they do. I assume I’d be working with blocked drains. In the Essendon area, there are plenty of them, so it’s probably a safe guess.

I guess I won’t know until I actually apply. I have to get it approved by my school before I reach out to anyone, so I guess I’ll find out in the next few days.
