I’ve had my car for several years now, but sometimes I find it hard to believe that I actually own it. I drive it almost every day, but I still feel like such an amateur, like I’m somebody who only just got their licence, simply because I don’t know much about the basic parts of cars. I was never taught, but that’s not really an excuse. There are plenty of resources available to find out how a car works if I need to know something.
The other day, I had to look up how to schedule a log book service in Lockleys as I have never had my car serviced on a scheduled service, other than when I have taken it in to get serviced when there was an obvious problem. I just didn’t realise I had to bring my car in to the mechanic for scheduled services throughout the year. Apparently you also need to take it to a mechanic when it reaches a certain number of kilometres, which is something that I didn’t know until I looked it up.
I only just noticed the previous mechanic put a sticker on my windshield to let me know when it should be serviced next, but I always just ignored the sticker. There should be a class for all new drivers and teenagers to learn about things that are related to cars but aren’t necessary for driving, like what all the little buttons and things do. I think once I understand the basics I can then move on to more difficult topics, such as car maintenance and repair.
When I was booking my appointment with the mechanic, he was saying that it sounded like I need a clutch repair. It would be amazing if I knew how to do that myself. My friends would be glad they had someone so knowledgeable in their friendship group, since it would save them a lot of time always going to the mechanic store.
