Fancy Solar Conversations

“Now, I don’t know what you’d need a 10,000 kW solar system for, but if you ever feel like having enough energy to power the entire city, you let my main man Gideon know and he’ll hook you up.”

The plump aristocrat thanked Dirk for the tip and waddled off to go bother somebody else. After two hours of wearing his stuffy tux and engaging in pleasantries with the city’s elite – who, mind you, Dirk would have happily shipped up to the surface to be horrifically eaten alive by giant cockroaches – he felt like he would probably be sick if he had to go through much more of it.

Gideon had made Dirk’s mission clear, though: talk to as many people as possible and convince them to trust Gideon if they ever needed any sort of upgrades to their luxurious mansions, or perhaps needed a new one constructed entirely. His main focus for tonight was selling solar energy solutions, including things such as 500kW solar system installations – and beyond – which Dirk was pretty sure nobody would ever need.

He sighed and headed over to the buffet table, casually glancing around for his next target. As he loaded up on shrimp cocktails and some sort of shaved meat that was for some reason purple, Dirk tried to plan out his next conversation about commercial battery storage solutions or new methods of solar power generation.

Across the room, he spotted Gideon, currently entertaining a small crowd with his stories while his robed bodyguard stood just over his shoulder. The robed man, Lorenzo, glanced over at Dirk and narrowed his eyes as if watching the office designer turned solar power salesman closely.

The moment Lorenzo turned away, Dirk felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned sharply, coming face to face with the devil herself: Madeline Alford.

Dirk hadn’t been drinking anything at that moment, but if he had, he almost certainly would have choked on the liquid and died right there.

What the hell was his ex doing here?
